Fallen Trees!!!

The night we got back to Georgia from Cody’s Wedding (in Utah)…we found that we had a tree down in the backyard…and it just happened to slice right through the play structure out there. We learned later that another tree had fallen in the forest behind the house…and it was attached to our deer stand/tree house that the kids (used to) play in. One other tree (that we know of) fell across one of our four-wheeler paths (see photos of Liz).

I guess a major storm moved through the area while we were gone for a week. We do feel blessed, however, that none of the trees fell on our home or hurt children while they were playing outside.

Oh, one of our air conditioning units broke while we were gone too. Most of the bedrooms were too hot to sleep in. So after driving through the night (we left Utah Sunday morning and got back to Georgia Monday evening) we couldn’t sleep in our beds and get a good night’s rest :-( .

Fallen Trees A direct hit! No more playing here :0(
Fallen Trees ...I guess Donovan didn't get the memo...
Fallen Trees This is a BEFORE photo. This was taken back in July...you can see what the playhouse was supposed to look like.
Fallen Trees The two trees had grown too closely together...I guess that's what made it unstable.
Fallen Trees The bottom of the playhouse....
Fallen Trees A super ugly crawl-a-mochie on the trampoline. Just par for the course in Georgia.
Fallen Trees Looking at the play structure from the opposite direction.
Fallen Trees Donovan and his buddies Dillon and Daniel went into the forest to play today and this is what they found....no more treehouse!
Fallen Trees You can't see it here, but the two trees that supported the tree house (deer stand) were right at the edge of a "deep" ravine. A lot of the roots were exposed into the ravine. You could see (after it fell) that a lot of the tree was very rotted inside.
Fallen Trees Donovan with Dillon and Daniel (twins) standing near the fallen tree (maybe not the best place to stand...now that I think about it).
Fallen Trees Donovan has a lot of fun with Dillon and Daniel!
Fallen Trees And this is the other tree that fell across one of the paths...and Liz...showing how sad we are about it ;-).

Frank at Work

Frank is really enjoying his position as Area Director.  These are some pictures from an “All Manager’s Conference” that he recently held in Cincinnati, Ohio, for all of the manager’s that are under him.  They did their annual awards at this meeting, hence the photos with people standing around holding certificates :-) .

Overnight Campout with the Young Women

In order to get ready for Young Women Camp this summer, our young women had to have an overnight campout to pass off some of their requirements (like building a fire, cooking something outside, setting up a tent, etc).  This is because when they get to camp they will be sleeping in air-conditioned cabins ;-) .  Wimpy, I know!  But my kind of camping!  :-)

Not all of the girls were able to attend, but I think those that did had a lot of fun.  Check it out:

Young Women Campout - June 2010 This was the "campsite." Ok...so it was the Pyne's backyard! You're pretty much in the forest wherever you go in Georgia...so you might as well have running water too, right? ;-) Don't they have a beautiful backyard?

Young Women Campout - June 2010 Can you see the cutest little boy sitting at the corner of the house? He lives there and had been playing in the backyard...I looked up and saw him sitting at the corner of the house just clapping his hands over and over....he is sooo cute!
Young Women Campout - June 2010 Kadison, what numerous hands and feet you have!

Father’s Day Video

Check out this video – just in time for Father’s Day!  It has a great message about the relationship between Fathers and Sons.  It’s also cool, however, because it stars friends of our family from our ward (church group) in Las Vegas, where we lived before we moved to Georgia.

Here is the one that was made for Mother’s Day as well….also a good one:

Trip to Brunswick 4: St. Simons Island Pier

Before we headed home we had to head to St. Simons Island and check out souveniers at “The Shell Shop” (not the true name, but what the family calls it).  It has been a tradition in Frank’s family to go there every time they visit.  The kids love it there and find all kinds of cool stuff (like puffer fish hanging from a string – PJ; or shark tooth necklaces – Don).

After The Shell Shop we headed over to the Pier.

2010 Spring – Misc. Happenings 1

It seems like there is always SOOOO much going on!!!  Here is just a little snippet of some of what we have been up to lately.

Spring 2010 Misc. Megan and Mikayla's Mia Maid (church) class recently had a "Mermaid Party" at the Kimble home. Mikayla is in the middle and Megan is on the far right.
Spring 2010 Misc. Donovan is active in Cub Scouting and is currently working on earning his Bear. This is him at a recent Pack Meeting doing a skit with his fellow scouts. Donovan is second from the right.
Spring 2010 Misc. In order to get ready for Young Women camp in the summer, the girls from our ward (church) recently participated in a hike. Campers are required to do hikes of different lengths depending on how many years they have been going to camp. This year we all did the 5 mile hike together. You can see Mikayla and Megan in there (front, left), but Liz was trying to jump in the back and ended up not being in the picture.
Spring 2010 Misc. The girls getting ready to start...
Spring 2010 Misc.
Spring 2010 Misc. Our Stake (church) recently held a 5K in order to gather food for local food banks. The entry fee was 10 cans of food. It rained a little bit, but it was a great event overall. It was such a beautiful setting as well.
Spring 2010 Misc. Our Stake President's son won the race.
Spring 2010 Misc.
Spring 2010 Misc.
Spring 2010 Misc. Megan at the pavillion...during the race.
Spring 2010 Misc. Frank is enjoying his new duties at work as "The Big Cheese." ;-) He is currently serving as an Area Director and travels to a bunch of offices that are under him. Here he is in Cleveland, Ohio...they even made him a sign :-).
Spring 2010 Misc. Frank and more of his "peeps." :-)
Spring 2010 Misc. Frank and coworkers.
Spring 2010 Misc. When Frank travels, he gets to see a lot of cool things...Shayne is very jealous :-). Recently he was in Washington D.C. and got to do a session at the LDS Temple there. It is a gorgeous temple!
Spring 2010 Misc. More of the Washington DC Temple.
Spring 2010 Misc. Frank also had a recent week in Baltimore, Maryland (actually, the same trip as the DC Temple excursion...it's not far from there). He really fell in love with that city.
Spring 2010 Misc. More of Baltimore, MD.
Spring 2010 Misc. More of Baltimore, MD.
Spring 2010 Misc. More of Baltimore, MD.
Spring 2010 Misc. Donovan, who used to be painfully shy, is coming out of shell these days. Even so, this is a side of Donovan that most of you won't see :-). He's a pretty funny guy. He recently had to do a report on Abraham Lincoln at school and he had this costume for the oral report. See the VIDEO of him below attempting the Gettysburg Address.
Spring 2010 Misc. More of Donovan as Abraham Lincoln.

Donovan does Abraham Lincoln 1 (5/10)

Donovan does Abraham Lincoln 2 (5/10)

So, I guess most people learned the Gettysburg Address as this:   ”Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.”

We have a debate in our house about that sentence…because I swear I learned it in high school as “forefathers” instead of just “fathers.”  My kids are learning it as “fathers.”   I did read that there are about 5 versions of the Gettysburg Address.  Did anyone else learn the Gettysburg Address saying “our FOREFATHERS”???  Just curious…it could just be my faulty memory…

Run from Hunger 2010:  “Alex Wins the Race!”  She was just pretending…she hadn’t run the whole race ;-) .
